Stage 1 – Bolzano to Trento

Cycling Summary – 2:54 of riding covering 66.66 km with 264 meters of climbing

We had a great sleep – well deserved after two days of travel which included an overnight flight! We enjoy a brunch prepared by Sarah which also included Sarah’s good friend Jenny!

After a late start to the day we or should I say Peter and Sarah – put together the bikes, we packed our bags, and finally put them on the bikes. Always a bit slower the first day riding as you want to make sure you have everything and that the bikes are working properly.

We finally hit the road! An exceptional ride done entirely on a bike path (velo 7). We experienced exceptional views taking in the river and snow capped mountains. The only thing that dampened the ride was the incredibly strong head wind. One section was so strong that I thought I was going to be blown off the bike! We witnessed a herd of sheep that were in the valley all huddled together to provide protection for each other as they moved forward! I would of taken a picture but I didn’t think I would be able to start again! It helped that we had Sarah as a wind block for the entire ride! Peter wanted to ride up front but Sarah insisted on being the lead! I was definitely not offering to block the wind!

We arrived to a very nice hotel – the San Giorgio! It was located at the top of a hill with stunning views of the mountains and Trento! Of course being on top of a mountain meant a 200 meter climb on an uneven road with an 18 percent gradient! I didn’t even try to get up the hill! Peter and Sarah of course climbed the last 200 meters!

We had a lovely dinner with a km walk downhill to the next town. We all started to deflate towards the end of dinner. A nice walk back up the hill and off to bed went! We all fell asleep quickly dreaming of the climbs tomorrow or should I say nightmare!😀

Getting bikes ready – I’m faster than Peter!
